The Shenandoah County Animal Shelter

Volunteers enrich the shelter’s pets’ lives each and every day.  They are always in need of individuals, young and old, to come and play with their furry friends! Just a few volunteer opportunities with the shelter include:

  • Provide Foster Care for a Dog or Cat: In order to maximize our extremely limited shelter space, we operate a foster care program by which animals can temporarily be kept at various homes throughout the area.
  • Donate Items the Shelter Needs: In order to give our animals the best possible treatment, we sometimes rely on the charity and kindness of the residents of Shenandoah County. Donations from the following lists are greatly appreciated.
  • Sponsor an Animal: The shelter is in need of sponsors to help spay/neuter our animals and give them their rabies vaccination. The full cost to sponsor a dog is $95 and a cat is $75. Your sponsorship is 100% tax deductible. Also you will have the satisfaction of knowing you have increased the chances of an orphaned animal of finding his/her forever home!
  • Transporting and Housing: The Shenandoah County Animal Shelter is looking for volunteers who are able to transport and/or house seized agricultural animals such as cows, horses, goats, sheep, donkeys, etc.
